Phoenix Education and Training visits EAVA FM

Here at EAVA FM we kicked off our Monday 27th February 2012 by inviting in the Director of Phoenix Education and Training, Ken White into the studio to talk to Deedar.

Phoenix Education and Training is based on Abbey Street opposite St Margaret's bus station until either the end of February or the beginning of March when they will be moving into their new building on Belgrave Gate. Phoenix Education and Training has been established since June 2009 and is aimed towards young people aged between 14 and 19 years where they encourage young people to develop their skills.

There is a community project happening called Centre of Attention that is run by young people for the young people and they are helping to find things for young people to do because they say there is nothing to do.

Nearly everyone who comes onto a course walks away with a qualification and they either get a job at the end of it or move onto higher education. If your interested in doing a course with us then call us on 0116 2624944, where we will set an appointment up for you and give you a little interview. In the interview we will get to know your situation and your skills so that we can tailor the course around you. There is no cost for this but you do have to be referred by connexions which Ken says that if you come in they will speak to connexions and get you referred.

Dee asked Ken whether parents are able to call in for their children and Ken said,

"We like working with parents because we can see that the young person has a support network at home." - Ken White.

It can also be intimidating for a young person to walk into a new place on their own so it helps to have a parent or sibling come with them for support.

If you would like to find out more information you can call 0116 2624944 or you can drop in to Phoenix Education and Training are Abbey Street, Leicester, LE1 3TE.
