Leicestershire Centre for Integrated Living (LCIL) visits EAVA FM

Do you, a loved one or perhaps a friend ever need advice in services catered towards the needs of disabled people?

Monday 27th March 2012 saw Chief executive Steven Cooper from the Leicestershire Centre for Integrated Living (LCIL) came in to tell us a little bit about the organization and share information about an upcoming event arranged by the organisation Choice Unlimited.

So who are LCIL and what are their main aims?

LCIL is based in Leicester centre on Upper Brown Street and we are an organisation established by disabled people, for disabled people. All full members as well as directors and our CEO are disabled, as is many of our staff. We actively seek to recruit disabled staff and volunteers and welcome the involvement of non-disabled people as allies to support us in achieving the aims of our organisation. Our goal is to support and empower disabled individuals in Leicester city/county and to be able to give advice and sign post them to the right places to gain the right advice suited to their needs and support them in issues that they may be facing on a day to day basis in the community. We do this by promoting the benefits of disabled people.

What Services do you offer?

We have a number of funding streams. One such service is the Right To Control Stream which is a new way for people gaining access to funds to support them whilst wanting to live and remain in their own home or support them in their career at work or even to look for work. This could be helped through funding grants.

So what should I do next?

Basically, just make an appointment and come along or arrange via phone and speak to the Right to Control team and see whether or not they're eligible. If they are they would then be supported through the process to gain access funding that would help move them forwards.

What is Access to Work?

Access to Work can help you if your health or disability affects the way you do your job. It gives you and your employer advice and support with extra costs which may arise because of your needs. If you’re having any issues at work or worried about how you will do at your new job then by contacting us, we could advise you about your best options.

You mentioned an up and coming event called Choice Unlimited. What is this about?

Choice Unlimited is an event that will help build dialogue between providers who offer great services and disabled people, the elderly and carers. It’s an opportunity to find out about information, services, products, ideas and innovation for disabled, older people and carers in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. This event will be packed to the brim with a range of services that are available to support choice and control. There will be an opportunity for the providers to meet with front line staff within social care throughout the city of and county of Leicestershire and hopefully from Rutland and Oakham. It will act as a speed network for providers can show the frontline staff what exactly they can offer. There really will be something for everyone. Whatever your needs and interests, you’ll find everything under one roof at Choice Unlimited.

Venue: Leicester Tigers Stadium, Aylestone Road, Leicester, LE2 7TR.
Date: Thursday 5th April 2012
