The Friday Flex attends Dawn Penn + Guests LIVE

The Friday Flex team were excited to attend a live performance from a Reggae icon Dawn Penn in Leicester. The event which was held at the Music Cafe was also supported by local artists.

Date: 26th April 2013, Venue: Music Cafe, Leicester.

As we entered the venue we were impressed by the sound system which was provided by The Biscuit Tin Sound system. The DJ was playing some reggae anthems to get the crowd warmed up for the evening. The playing of ‘Dangerous’ by Conroy Smith was a personal highlight for me.

As the event progressed, the crowd were introduced to the first live act of the evening. Stretch is a local artist who performed for the people in attendance. Her performance was very good and was also well received by all in attendance, remember the name Stretch.

Up next was Carla Thomas another artist who performed a set. This was a powerful performance given by a lady who possesses a powerful voice. Her songs got the crowd going and she had people singing along with her call and response sections from her songs. It was now time for the main event of the evening. It was time for Dawn Penn to grace the stage and entertain the crowd.

From the moment Dawn stepped on to the stage, the vibes within the venue increased. Delivering a masterful performance, Dawn had the crowd’s attention. A reggae version of “Downtown” was well received by the entire crowd. During the set, the tempo switched when Dawn sang “Never Hustle the Music” and also the amazing “City Life” which was the song of the set for me.

Of course no Dawn Penn set would be complete without a performance of “No No No”. Dawn finished her set and calmly walked off the stage without singing “No No No” at which point the entire crowd began shouting the lyrics and then BOOM the music began and Dawn returned on stage and gave the crowd what they wanted, an amazing performance of an amazing song. The Dawn Penn set was fantastic and really got the crowd involved.

Speaking to some of the people in attendance, it was evident that everyone was having a really good time. One particular lady from Slovakia was dancing all night with her friends and told me how much she loved “No No No” and was amazed to see Dawn Penn perform the song live.

This was a great evening enjoyed by all in attendance.

The Friday Flex team would like to thank all those involved in putting this event together. Shaun, Stretch, Carla and of course Dawn Penn for what was an amazing performance.
